When I got it I didn't want to change it a lot. I really didn't know what's going to happened with this piece, just new - don't destroy the good woodwork of the masters from 80's.
How do I know it's 80's. Because it is written on the bottom of the shelf - CROWN PRODUCT January 1981.

And I didn't know what to do with this kinda glass kinda ceramic top with marks of knife cuts and dents.
Well, at the end it worked out lovely and quirky.

It's some time I have been quite curious about General Finishes products what Aileen from Sew Darn Pretty Vintage Home stocks in her online store www.shabby.ie
So I ordered a tin of Java Gel Stain as that seems to be most popular. Sanded the little table and off I go.
As I said on my previous post there was a little struggle of what the stain is going to do and if I will like that.
I applied it with sponge and wiped it down with kitchen towel almost immediately but then I saw that streaks of stain in some way suits the table better. An old but contemporary look. I applied and wiped it down few times till I liked what I see.
The recommended drying time needs to be adhered.

I purchased few lovely mouldings for this project and for few future ones from Shabby.ie and as a real crafter/hoarder I have a good stash of drawer pulls and millions other "useful" things in my storage boxes.
Moulding and metal drawer pull was painted and dipped in black paint. Left to dry and attached to little drawer at the end. I brushed antic gold acrylic paint over the moulding to highlight it a bit more.
And I think I am done with this lovely piece of furniture.
The purpose of it, you ask?
It is perfect as a sewing machine table.
All the best
