Year ago

Can't believe it was just a year ago when I started my wooden wall decor adventures.

It was sunny and dry day and I just returned from shopping trip for more paint and other important crafty stuff.

Nothing much has changed. I still enjoy making my wall decors. I still don't have a workshop. I use any spare clear square meter in this little household. I still enjoy my makings and I still buy more paint and napkins only my buys and findings become a little larger in scale. And clear square meters are more complicated to find.

This 80' s little side table Richard got from his friend (look I'm not the only hoarder in this family!) is finally next in line for makeover. I will try to keep it as authentic as I think I will.

I was curious about General Finishes gel stains everyone was talking about and admiring in crafters and makers community. So I ordered a tin of Java gel stain from Aileen's shop www.shabby.ie  and few lovely mouldings as well ( for future projects ;)

Little bit of struggle from beginning to figure out what I want to achieve with it but at the end I'm quite pleased for the look. It was an old table and I made it even older looking.

Today I will have to decide which drawer knob I will use and ruin the last bit of the table (that's how my husband described my activities), the top. I have some ideas in my think thank for it. Just wait till you see!

Then another photo shoot for D Craft Affairs history books and that's that!

Have a lovely weekend

I'm behind few posts of what has happened in DCA workshop.

Hot weather makes me lazy. Lazier then I am usually ;) I'm just a human!

**************************************

I have finished couple of rustic country cottage style key holders. I have used my all times favorite rooster and a little message in the bottle. Cute detail that will catch your look every time you walk  by. This time instead of string I attached proper hooks for hanging on the wall.

This one job completed it is like a drop of water in ocean in comparison to what's listed in my note book.
Pfuuuu.......

I'm divided between garden tasks and my dear wood works. Garden must be the first as weather is unusually glamorous for this part of the world.

Just yesterday I made a quick summer wreath for our back garden sitting area. Sorry that  had to use plastic flowers but I have used a real Irish straw as a base for my decor.

Today it's going to be this little table revamp which will take longer time because I will be using General Finishes Gel stain which needs 3 days to settle.

Do you see our cat in the background?

I'm teaching him to love camera which he ignores tremendously and professionally. Just wait! I need cute cat pics on my Instagram, don't I!!

All the best

Nostalgic flashback ...

Warmer weather (not today thou) and brighter times are approaching and I am bringing larger finds into the house.

Well in our new place we are not blessed with a lot of disposable space but that can't stop me from collecting things I like, that inspire me and brigs me joy!

Who needs space :))))

Last weekend Richard got this little wooden side table from his friend. Basically rescued it from being taken a part and thrown in limbo.

It is one amazing example of 80's furniture. I am 80's child maybe that's the reason it "sticks" to me. Nostalgic reasons hmm...

Anyway I saved it, I saved those legs. You just look at those legs! :D

Woodwork is very nicely done and the table is in great condition. I'm not going to approach this piece with a paint brush even. That would be shame.

I would probably find those brown leather trousers I bought 10 years ago and never wore  from pepe jeans and finally put in some use  making a new handle for drawer.

Hey hey, to put my rustic stamp on things! :)

Love it!

P.S. with some larger pieces there are always some small and cute bits I can't leave behind that find the way to my household. That is called  - I'm hopeless :)

textures...

There are good few amazing accounts on Instagram I'm following that made me think about textures, close ups, seeing a tiny detail in an ordinary thing. I have discovered for myself that small detail sometimes better shows the idea of the whole things. I can say that about my wall signs. Just a quick snap of whole sign sometimes doesn't deliver the message I put in my make.

There is beauty in the detail.

Nothing is almost perfect, some things seem to be but who knows if they are. Have you noticed that some things in close-up looks weird, almost non-earthy.

Just collated some images of makeover of my old carboot purchase. see more in gallery

For now I will just keep taking more pics of my flower pots looking for more beauty in the detail.

All the best
